sleep study - CHECK.

We were called with an opening for a sleep study for Gideon a month ago and received the results about 2 weeks ago. Everything looked great while he was sleeping. The experience however, was not Gideon's favorite

As you can see, it wasn't just a few metrics being measured but EVERYTHING. Full EEG set up on his little head, leads on his body and a nose cannula. He hated every minute of it. They needed 6 hours of data and they seemed to get just enough. A little more about how that day went. I had started to get a cold the night before and actually did not sleep at all (Tuesday) that night, and so I was napping in the morning. I had a missed call from the out patient center saying they had an opening. If you recall in one of our other posts, our actual sleep study was scheduled for June. Daniel was also getting over a cold, but feeling better than I was. We talked it over and decided that it was the perfect timing. I rested a little more, he picked the big kids up from school, and together with our nurse we got him ready to go, all his gear packed up, and everything else together that he needed. Drop off time was 6pm, which worked out great with the kids going to church. So the 4 of us traveled down to the out patient center, got in the room, got everything set up and Daniel was preparing to feed him and get him cozy in time for the staff to start hooking him up. Only one of us could stay, so I went back home with our nurse and he stayed the night with Gideon. Our pickup time the next day was at 5:00am. They were really probably ready at 4:30, but I was told 5:00am. I got them picked up, we got home and proceeded with our day. Amazingly, Gideon had a great day for such a terrible night! He was definitely a little extra sensitive to, everything, and wanted extra cuddles. But overall he played, did his therapies, and had a good day afterwards. We all went to bed early that night.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and our pulmonologist reviewed the results and everything came back normal. They were wanting to be sure that there are no central nervous system issues with his breathing, and we just believed that there were not. He then scheduled out a scope (bronchoscopy) that is occurring in 1 week from this email. If everything looks clear, the plan is to remove Gideon's trach and keep him over night for observation. This is so incredibly huge. This is the moment we have been waiting for, since we were told that the best thing for Gideon was to get a trach in August of 2024. We will not be surprised if he needs some extra treatment for some granulation tissue around his trach. It has caused nothing but problems theses last 6 months. We've moved to the smallest size, which is great, but because it's smaller than the stoma, it rubs and irritates everything in that area.

Join us in praying over the scope next week and that everything really does come back clear and we can move past this part of our lives.

We're ready go get our littlest buddy out and on some family bike rides:
